Heads up

  • A Parks Pass is required for Freycinet, Douglas-Apsley and Cradle Mountain. Dove Lake and Ronny Creek are reached by park shuttle from the visitor centre.
  • Book the Port Arthur evening ghost tour and the West Coast Wilderness Railway ahead. Check whether the railway departs from Queenstown or Strahan.
  • Mountain and west-coast roads are narrow and winding, and wildlife is common at dusk. Avoid night driving and check kunanyi summit road conditions before you go.
  • Wombats at Ronny Creek are most active early and late in the day; keep your distance and stay on the boardwalk.
